Consumer Reviews Haier Portable Washer

Below is the honest reviews from customers who have purchased a Haier Portable Washer HLP21N:

Great product, excellent customer service,
By J. Pruitt "FTW"

First I want to talk about Hi-Tech Media's customer service then I'll review the product itself.

Haier Portable Washer

When I received my washer (Haier Portable Washer HLP21N) the box was wet on the inside and there was water dripping out of it onto my carpet as I unpacked the product. There were parts falling off of the washer (Haier Portable Washer) as it was unboxed and there was a dent in the front. Some of the parts were missing from the package and there was a piece included that was supposed to screw onto the bottom that did not even fit. The bottom of the washer had scrapes from where the casters had rubbed against it, which tipped me off that this was a used product (as if the water dripping out wasn't enough).

I contacted Hi-Tech Media's customer service through Amazon. They responded the same day and apologized for the mix-up. They reasoned that the machine was probably next to a new unit and was accidentally boxed up as new by accident at the factory. They then coordinated for the return of the product without my needing to do any work at all and even paid for the return shipping. Through the entire process their representative was apologetic, helpful and quick to take action.

Once my product return was confirmed a new machine was shipped out promptly and arrived in new condition with all of the proper packaging and parts. The new unit functions normally and I am quite happy with both it and the service I received from Hi-Tech Media.

Now on to the product:

This is a small washing machine that can be hooked up to a kitchen sink. I got it because I live in a studio apartment where washing a load of laundry in the apartment complex's laundry costs $3 a load. Plus the laundry room is on the 4th floor, which means I have to haul my clothes back and forth across four floors. That's not the only problem: Everyone in the neighborhood uses coin operated laundry and so the local businesses have a policy of not giving out quarters for the wash. So every other time I wanted to wash the laundry I had to get in my car and drive to the bank 15 miles away to get quarters, or sneak into one of the local laundry facilities that has a change machine and hope I don't get caught (I never wash my clothes there because they charge $7 a load).

With this machine, the Wonderwash spin dryer and the Haier HLP140E 2-3/5-Cubic-Foot Compact Tumble Vented Dryer I can wash and dry my clothes in the comfort of my apartment.

I also purchased a dryer exhaust vent kit that you put water in to trap the lint but I can't find the product link.

Here is how I do my wash:

1. The washing machine has casters on it, so I wheel it over to the sink, remove the water filter from the faucet and hook up the washer hose. I wash my clothes in the washer.

2. I take the cloths to the spin dryer and spin them for about two minutes to squeeze out most of the water. When they clothes come out of the spin dryer they are almost dry.

NOTE: If you buy one of these, get a screw driver and remove the board from the bottom that locks the motor during shipping before first use. They don't tell you this anywhere in the instruction manual.

3. Then I put the clothes into the Haier dryer to finish drying on the automatic cycle.

Haier Portable Washer Pros:

  • No more feeling like a thief because I need quarters to do the wash.
  • Don't have to haul my clothes up to the laundry room and back down.
  • I don't have to depend on the apartment laundry room having a machine available when I want to do the wash.
  • The machine is small and easily wheeled out of the way when not in use.
  • Clothes come out clean and smelling nice.

Haier Portable Washer Cons:

  • The machine is small so it takes several loads to do the wash.
  • My apartment manager complained at first about using water for the washer until I explained it only uses about a gallon of water.
  • Connecting and disconnecting the faucet adapter is a chore. I might get a two-way adapter so I don't have to remove my water filter every time.
